Tampa Team - Growing Strong!

Did you know Team Hope For The Warriors® has a strong group going – and growing! – in Tampa, FL?  Mirka, A Warrior’s Wish® Director and Spouse/Caregiver Scholarship Director of Hope For The Warriors®, and her husband, Devin, have devoted much time and energy into making a name for the Tampa Team, and it is truly paying off!

Devin joined Team Hope For The Warriors® about a year ago and made it a goal to really promote the Team in the Tampa area.  He aimed to start weekly Team runs and to inspire people to join the Team and run in local races in support of Hope For The Warriors®.  He had 10 Team members run in the Gasparilla Half Marathon last year (2011) and by summertime he had started the weekly runs at a local restaurant. These weekly runs moved in September to Beef O’Brady’s in South Tampa.  The owner of “Beefs” is a huge supporter of the military community in Tampa and rolled out the red carpet for the Tampa Team.  Within a few weeks he had started his own beer promotion benefitting Hope For The Warriors®.  Little by little the Tampa Team has grown – a few members ran in the Disney Half Marathon, a few more ran last Sunday’s St. Pete Rock ‘n Roll Half Marathon, they have the Gasparilla Half coming up on March 4^th, and in April some will be competing in the St. Anthony’s Tri in St. Pete.

Devon's Channel 10 interview

Not only does the Team have a fantastic time during their weekly runs, group dinners, and races, they are surely getting attention too!  Last week’s run (Thurs, Feb. 9) was captured by a crew from Tampa’s Channel 10, the local CBS affiliate. They will be featuring Tampa’s Team Hope For The Warriors® in their series called Heroes on the Homefront, which features groups with the mission of improving lives of the military community in Tampa.  They filmed the Team running along Bayshore Blvd, interviewed both Devin and Mirka afterwards and got more footage at Sunday’s Rock ‘n Roll Half Marathon.  The final piece will air on Monday, February 27^th – mark your calendars!!
